The Garden

Superbly positioned overlooking the banks of the Inglis River, our garden room has been purpose built to capture views of both the river and the sweeping lawns bordered by lovely cottage gardens. Chestnuts, our spacious queensize suite has an additional single bed to cater for that extra guest or child, and is well equipped for either short or longer stays, with microwave, bar fridge, and full crockery supplied.

  • FESTIVAL - Tulip Festival (October), A display of Daffodils in September, Tulips in October, and Dutch iris in late October and early November.
  • Agricultural Show (March).
  • Visit Boat Harbour beach - voted one of the 10 best beaches in Australia, only 10 kms away via scenic Table Cape with the lighthouse/observation area and the Tulip Farm.
  • Search for sapphires and zircons in the rocks on the beach.
  • Continue on to Sisters Beach, a popular swimming beach with shady trees.
  • Stop in at Mallavale Farm, Sisters Beach Road for quality crafts, teas and country style home cooked lunch.

  • Golf - Wynyard Golf Club, 9 holes (1.5 km from Alexandria)

  •          Seabrook Golf Club, 18 holes ( 6 km from Alexandria)

  • Wilderness Flights - book through Tas Scenic Flights and SeaAir, Wynyard

  • Walks - Walking track along the Inglis River town side to Gutteridge Gardens and the wharf (3kms return from Alexandra)  Walking track along the river to Wynyard Golf Club, bird rookery and Fossil Bluff where the largest marine fossil was found.

  • Rocky Cape National Park - easy walking tracks featuring coastal  views, Aboriginal caves, wildflowers and many birds.  Hellyer Gorge State Reserve - 10 min walk along the Hellyer river between steep ridges. Continue on to Waratah, once the site of the world's richest tin mine.  Enjoy wilderness, lakes, trout fishing, gold panning, mine tours etc.  Drop into the Waratah Museum.

  • Gourmet Cheese Tasting at Lactos - A spread of world class cheeses, Old Surrey Road, Burnie

  • Visit the Pioneer Village Museum in Burnie (20kms from Alexandria)

  • Visit working Ceramics Studio - Elliott Schoolhouse Pottery and Crafts, Murchison Highway south of Somerset ( open Wed - Sun, 10am - 5pm)

  • Visit the Australian Paper Mill & The Makers Workshop Marine Terrace, Burnie.
  • Visit a Waterfall - Dip falls towards Stanley, Guide Falls in Ridgley
